The Tax Supervisor will oversee and manage the organization’s tax compliance, reporting, and planning functions. This role includes coordinating with internal teams and external consultants to ensure timely and accurate tax filings, while also working on strategic tax planning initiatives. The Tax Supervisor serves as a key advisor, providing insights and guidance on tax-related issues, and plays a crucial role in identifying tax-saving opportunities and mitigating risks.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Oversee and review clients, franchisees, and head office tax filings, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Ensure the Company’s compliance with Philippine tax laws, regulations, rules, and issuances of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in preparing business tax returns, remitting taxes due, and related business activities.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual PH tax filings and regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software (e.g., Juantax, Drakkar, QuickBooks).
- Attend tax consultations with clients and DVC franchisees.
2. Tax Planning and Strategy
- Support tax planning initiatives to minimize tax liabilities and maximize efficiency.
- Conduct research on current tax laws and regulations to identify potential impacts on the organization.
- Analyze and interpret tax regulations, providing recommendations for compliance and optimization.
3. Audit
- Perform “test of reasonableness” based on trial balance/AFS vs. tax returns and identify discrepancies that could lead to potential tax exposures.
- Assist in preparing reconciliation schedules and ensure preparedness for BIR audits to strengthen the company’s tax position.
- Serve as a primary point of contact with tax authorities to address inquiries and resolve issues.
4. Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Develop and implement best practices to streamline tax processes and enhance efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records to ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the tax function.
5. Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor tax staff, providing guidance on technical issues and career development.
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and identify training needs for team members.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
6. Payroll
- Check and verify payroll reports of DVC Head Office.
Qualifications of a Tax Supervisor
1. Educational Background
● Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or related field
● CPA license is not required but is an advantage
2. Work Experience
● At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in accounting firms handling:
○ Tax compliance (BIR filings, VAT, income tax, withholding tax, etc.)
○ Tax audits and assessments
○ Corporate income tax returns
○ Tax planning and advisory
● 1 to 3 years of supervisory or lead experience is required
3. Technical Skills
● Strong knowledge of:
○ Philippine tax laws and regulations
○ BIR regulations and requirements
○ Tax reporting and planning
○ Financial statements
● Familiar with tax software (e.g., Alphalist, eBIRForms, RELIEF) and accounting systems (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, Juantax)
● Proficient in MS Excel and other MS Office applications
